The city of Columbus memorialized the late founder of Tommy's Diner in Franklinton on Thursday with a street sign near the popular eatery.

Athanasios "Tommy" Pappas passed away in December at the age of 71. Mayor Andrew Ginther and other city and community officials unveiled the sign to honor Pappas.

The new red street sign at the corner of West Broad Street and Jones Avenue says "Tom Pappas Way" and contains a photo of the diner's iconic sign.

The white brick, 1950's-style retro diner on West Broad Street has stood since 1989 when Pappas and his wife Kathy founded it.

Many local celebrities, politicians and regular customers have their photos framed on the restaurant's walls.

The diner was featured earlier last year on Columbus-native Guy Fieri's Food Network show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."
