ǿ޴ý Partners with Public Radio Stations Statewide To Launch “The Ohio Newsroom”

COLUMBUS, OHIO, MARCH 3, 2022 – The state’s largest public radio stations are joining together to launch The Ohio Newsroom, a formalized statewide reporting partnership that will expand news coverage throughout Ohio.

Journalists from ǿ޴ý, ideastream Public Media in Cleveland, Cincinnati Public Radio, and WYSO in Yellow Springs will produce in-depth, fact-driven public service journalism on radio and digital platforms statewide. will explore issues including healthcare, education, energy, and the environment, among others.

The partner stations have a long history of working together to share content of relevance to the entire state. The Ohio Newsroom, which will be led by a , expands this collaborative work in a cohesive and strategic manner.

Public radio stations in Ohio that broadcast NPR content are invited to join The Ohio Newsroom. In addition to the primary partner stations, WGTE (Toledo), WOUB (Athens), and WYSU (Youngstown) have signed on to participate and contribute reporting to the initiative.

“Public radio covers 90 percent of the state of Ohio,” said Ronnie Agnew, general manager of ǿ޴ý. “The Ohio Newsroom will tell stories that have impact – stories that will inform, engage and connect with citizens to make our state better. This partnership will give public radio listeners important news from all regions of the state.”

Wendy Turner, a news executive at ideastream, will manage the Ohio Newsroom. She in charge of managing The Ohio Channel and the Ohio Public Radio and Television Statehouse News Bureau, which serves all Ohio public television and radio stations.

“This initiative will mean more in-depth stories, expanded digital content and even better statewide coordination on breaking news,” Turner said. “Ohio’s public media organizations have a long history of collaboration. We look forward to continuing this tradition of successfully serving Ohioans through The Ohio Newsroom.”

This statewide collaborative is funded through a two-year, $375,000 grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
