The Ohio Department of Education is embarking on a national search for its next superintendent of public instruction who will oversee the academic agenda for nearly 1.7 million public school students.

Whoever gets the position will face challenges playing out across the country -- learning during a pandemic, vocal opposition to vaccine and mask mandates and competition from private schools.
