Pixelle Specialty Solutions will cease all production at its Chillicothe plant in less than two weeks.

The Ohio EPA is asking the owners of the Everwear plant to replace wells that regulate toxic underground plume beneath the city of Chillicothe. The nearby Pixelle paper mill closing not only leaves hundreds of people without jobs, but also presents a challenge to future containment of the chemicals.

Pixelle Specialty Solutions will cease all production at the plant on East 8th Street. More than 700 will be without work absent an eleventh-hour buyer.

The mill's operator, Pixelle Speciality Solutions, had said earlier the mill would close by the end of the year.

Pixelle Specialty Solutions is searching for a buyer for its Chillicothe paper mill.

Moreno said the historic Chillicothe paper mill, owned currently by Pixelle Specialty Solutions, will pause its permanent closure until December.

Pixelle Specialty Solutions told the state on Tuesday that it would be closing the mill and eliminate 826 jobs.
