Doulas help navigate pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. Though the process hasn鈥檛 been without problems, the state has certified dozens of doulas in at least 20 counties.

Doulas are happy that a new certification process will allow the state to reimburse them for services through Medicaid. It's meant to help improve infant mortality rates in the state, but they say the process is making it harder for doulas to serve pregnant women.
